Safety on ExpertTeacherTutors

Tutoring touches what matters most — your child's learning and wellbeing. Here's exactly what we check, what we monitor, and what to do if something feels wrong.

What we verify before a tutor appears on the site

Every tutor application is reviewed by a person on our team before they can be booked. We check:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Every tutor on the platform holds (or has held) UK Qualified Teacher Status. We verify this against publicly available qualification records.
  • Identity. Tutors must complete Stripe Connect identity verification before they can be paid — this includes name, address, and date of birth checks against UK records.
  • DBS check. Tutors who declare a current DBS (enhanced disclosure for working with children) display a green DBS Checked badge on their profile. We ask for the certificate number on file.

Tutors awaiting review can't appear in search results or accept bookings.

How communication is monitored

All messaging between parents and tutors happens on the platform — we don't support off-platform contact, and we actively prevent it:

  • Email addresses, phone numbers, and URLs are automatically redacted in any message before the recipient sees them.
  • Conversations that triggered the redaction filter are reviewed by our admin team.
  • Tutors who repeatedly attempt to move parents off-platform are removed.

Keeping communication on-platform protects you: we can act on concerns, and we can't help if we can't see what was said.

During the session

  • For online lessons, we recommend the lesson takes place in a communal area of your home, with a parent in earshot.
  • Online lessons happen in our built-in video room — no third- party app to install. The room expires when the session ends.
  • For face-to-face lessons, we recommend lessons take place in public or shared spaces (libraries, community rooms) for students under 18.

Payments and refunds

  • All payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store card details.
  • Cancellations more than 24 hours before a session receive a full refund automatically.
  • If a session doesn't happen, or the tutor doesn't show up, contact us and we'll refund you.

If something feels wrong

If you have a concern about a tutor, a message, or something that happened during a session — tell us. We take every report seriously and respond within one working day.
