Safeguarding
The safety and wellbeing of children and young people is our highest priority. We are committed to creating a safe environment for learning.
Our Commitment
ExpertTeacherTutors is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people who use our platform. We recognise that everyone who works with children has a responsibility to keep them safe, and we take this responsibility seriously.
We believe that all children, regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation, or identity, have the right to equal protection from harm.
How We Protect Children and Young People
Qualified Teachers Only
We only accept tutors who are qualified, experienced teachers. Every tutor must hold a recognised teaching qualification such as QTS, PGCE, BEd, or CELTA, and have real classroom experience. This means your child is always learning from a trained professional.
DBS Checks
We require all tutors to declare their DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check status. This is clearly displayed on every tutor's profile so parents can make informed decisions. We strongly encourage all tutors working with under-18s to hold a valid enhanced DBS certificate.
Profile Verification
Every new tutor profile is reviewed by our team before it appears on the platform. We check qualifications, experience, and profile quality. Tutors who don't meet our standards are not approved.
Secure Platform
All communication between tutors and families takes place through our platform. Payments are handled securely through Stripe, removing the need for direct financial transactions. Online sessions use our built-in video calling.
Guidance for Parents and Guardians
While we take extensive measures to ensure the safety of our platform, we encourage parents and guardians to take an active role in their child's tutoring experience.
- 1
Check the tutor's profile
Review the tutor's qualifications, DBS check status, experience, and reviews from other families before booking.
- 2
Be present for face-to-face sessions
For in-person sessions with children under 18, we recommend that a parent or guardian is present in the home or nearby.
- 3
Monitor online sessions
For online sessions with younger children, we recommend that a parent or guardian is within earshot. You are welcome to sit in on sessions at any time.
- 4
Talk to your child
Regularly ask your child about their tutoring sessions. Encourage them to tell you if anything makes them feel uncomfortable.
- 5
Report concerns immediately
If you have any concerns about a tutor's behaviour or your child's safety, report it to us immediately using the details below. We take all reports seriously.
Guidance for Tutors
As a qualified teacher, you will already be familiar with safeguarding principles. We expect all tutors on our platform to maintain the same professional standards they would in a school setting.
Maintain professional boundaries — Keep all communication through the platform. Do not share personal contact details, social media accounts, or meet students outside of booked sessions.
Ensure appropriate environments — For online sessions, use a neutral, professional background. For face-to-face sessions, ensure you are tutoring in a suitable, agreed-upon location.
Keep your DBS up to date — If you work with children under 18, maintain a valid enhanced DBS certificate and keep your profile status accurate.
Report concerns — If a child discloses something concerning, or you observe signs of abuse or neglect, follow the reporting procedure below. Do not investigate yourself.
Record keeping — Keep a brief record of each session (date, time, topics covered). If any incidents or concerns arise, document them factually and report them promptly.
Reporting a Concern
If you have any safeguarding concerns about a child or young person, or about the behaviour of a tutor, please report it immediately. You do not need to be certain — if something doesn't feel right, report it.
